Hasbro may have been complete idiots for not coming to - or seriously attempting to come to - an amicable settlement, but they're hardly 'nasty' or 'evil' for protecting their trademarks...

I have no idea of the ins and outs of any negotiations that went on but surely they could have made some simple profit from it.
Ah well.

As I say, I think they're complete idiots for not agreeing some kind of settlement; my point is that a company is not daft, nasty, evil or any other pejorative merely because they protect their trademark in a way that others don't like.

In the US, particularly, trademark law means that if you don't go after every infringement to the maximum, you stand a chance of later losing any right to protect the asset. (As an example, a chemist who used a hand painted graphic of Superman without permission or attribution in their window got a formal cease and desist letter from DC comics.)

Got to protect what's yours, as it were.

I think Karen is just upset as she's lost her beloved Scrabulous.

Pretty much - and I do sympathise; although I don't play the game (played a couple of games when I first joined, but then stopped) I do understand the frustration she must feel.

I just think that her ire is aimed at the wrong people is all.

I have to agree with Budgie, I don't really think they were doing anything wrong. If they were just doing it for a quick buck and not introducing their own version then it would be a very different matter. Maybe their version only allows words that actually exist, which would be an improvement.

but finding words that don't exist was all part of the fun! ;)

I am indeed grumpy because i liked playing scrabulous, but i am particularly grumpy because the officel scrabble comes in two versions, one for the US and Canada and one for everywhere else, which means playing scrabble with my aunt in Canada just became impossible :(
